It was the best tasting whiskies out of the batches and hence it got its name. So the name Vat does not actual come from being a vatted malt as this whisky is not in the category. It also was first bottled in port wine bottles.
Vat 69 has not been changed in the making of it for over 100 years and its still the very fine blend which has over 40 malt and grain whiskies in the blend. William Sanderson is the person who brought Vat 69 to the market place when he bought the Glengarioch Distillery.
Sanderson and two others formed a company called North British Distillery.
Vat 69 originally from Scotland, but nowadays is produced in Germany and Australia as well from its birthplace of Scotland. The company is owned by United Distillers.
